My vision of computing
I am truly, madly passionate about computing in the broadest sense of the word.
Simply put, I am interested in how we implement a Turing machine elegantly and functionally today, how it communicates with buses, and how input/output is organized.
Computing == casino
Computers are literally everywhere. For example, I own a 2010 Mercedes; very few of its mechanical connections are not controlled by some kind of computer.
The problem is that this omnipresence encourages people to create layers upon layers of abstraction that nobody understands.
This is very, very harmful. I know I may be alone in saying: “There should be few abstractions, but they should be simple and elegant, and computer scientists should know them by heart (yes, yes, I support that :) ).”
Computing is also a little insubstantial: anything can be “marketing.” I can make people believe absolutely anything and everything.
The widespread, ANARCHIC practice of low-level programming (I am criticizing only its anarchic nature) also contributes greatly to this.
It is also a discipline—and this is its greatest strength—that requires very little investment to learn: a C compiler such as MSVC/CLANG/GCC, or gaspardl (even simpler), or a high-level language such as Python, plus an ultra-mainstream text editor. That is the immense strength of this discipline!
Then again, I am also a mad enthusiast :) I know that talking about UNIX STREAMS is not exciting; it is better to talk directly about sockets.
What I also love is total freedom. WE ARE FREE, and that is wonderful.
I depend on nobody and on no bitter or frustrated teacher; I learn whatever I want.
For that, you need a kind of “mental Google” to search for topics and concepts.
Always go down to the lowest level to find the answer!
LOW LEVEL IS BETTER.
